Historic building of Žilina old Town Hall is located on the corner of Marian Square and is one of the most valuable cultural monuments of the city. On the side of the building there is a memorial plaque - Release of the privileges "pro Slavis" - a significant historical document that for the first time in history mentions Slovaks (Slovak of Žilina) as a separate ethnic group in a dispute with another nationality, namely the Germans. Privilege was issued by king Ludwig I. in 1381. A modern element on Town Hall is a carillon installed in the 90s of the 20th century. Old Town Hall is now the seat of the Mayor of Žilina, and also the place of holding occasional urban exhibitions.
