Babuška´s House (Makovický house) in Žilina

Beautiful bourgeois house standing on the corner of Bottova Street and Horný Valu in Žilina was built in historicist style and belonged to the Babuška family. At the turn of the 19th and 20th century, Dr. Makovický, the personal physician of the famous Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, who was in an extremely popular figure, because of the fact that  the poor patients he saw here for free and he often bought also medicines for them. At the time when Žilina was the capital of Slovakia (winter 1918-1919), the man leading the country, Vavro Šrobár, had his residence here. Regional Observatory is currently situated here.
