Archbishop's Palace in Košice

Rate it Thanks for rating

Košice territory belonged since the establishment of the Hungarian Kingdom in the Diocese of Eger (the city of Eger in Hungary). This diocese was larger than the entire territory of today's Slovakia and the growing number of believers was very difficult to administer. Therefore, it divided later in time, giving rise to a separate diocese in Košice. The city was in no way a suitable residence, in which would be the new Bishop of Košice settled, so he immediately bought four town houses on the main square and rebuilt them into a city palace. From the palace it was near to the cathedral (to spare not just the legs of the youngest bishops) and it fitted well in terms of representativeness. In 1995, when Pope promoted Košice bishop to archbishop and became archbishop's palace.
