Pischl House in Banská Štiavnica – Marína House

Rate it Thanks for rating

“I may give up your lips, I may not get your hand,… I may kill myself, but I may not stop loving you!” (free translation of a part of a Slovak poem “Marína” written by Andrej Sládkovič). This poem is written on a commemorative plaque placed on a house where poet’s muse Maria Pischl alias Marína lived. Right here, in this inconspicuous house next to a church of St. Catherine, Andrej Sládkovič and Marína fell in love but it was unhappy love, which gave rise to the most known Slovak love poem of all times. The house is a national monument.
